Hello,
a few years ago I purchased the license for version 0.9.6.54 for FSX / P3D.

Do I need to upgrade to the MSFS 2020 version for free or do I need to purchase a new license?

The FSX/P3D License is fine for MSFS. You will just need to renew your update subscription to get access to the latest version of SPAD.neXt
