A neat and clean digital readout.

There ARE ways to have your flight sim interact with 7 segment displays.

But so far, none that I like.

If you want to try it, MobiFlight, has had some success, but I don't want all that many programs running outside of Prepar3d & SPAD.neXt. Then too, I think that MobiFlight is too limited in the hardware that you can use. Still, it does work.

So I'm holding out for Ulrich.

At any rate, one glaring problem keeps pounding me in the back of the head - How you do you make the cutout for a display like that?

I know how I WANT it to look, but in reality I KNOW how jagged that hole is going to be.

Sometimes I just have to kick myself in the butt for being so stupid.

The solution in the video below revolves around using the same chip that is in an Arduino Uno, the ATmega328.

The next part is the idea that I like - using THIS

In stead of THIS

Some modification will be needed, or desirable. For one, I'd just use the display running off of an external Arduino, rather than trying to cram an ATmega328 into the housing.

Either way, you end up with a nice numeric display without the jagged edges of the cutout showing. :D

This isn't my idea, but it certainly is a good one.

BTW - I want a 3 digit display for a compass readout.

But I want something like this for the altitude

There are LOTS of possibilities!
